Calling charity knitters to keep the music going!

EU hats.jpg

An avid fan of Electric Umbrella, has come up with a unique and engaging way of raising money and the profile of Electric Umbrella!

Jane Gerhard has designed a pattern for striking black and yellow beanie hats featuring the iconic umbrella from our logo.

We are releasing the pattern to local knitters and knitting groups urging as many people as possible to get knitting and create as many hats as possible. The hats will then be sold during November and December to raise funds for Electric Umbrella.

It’s a particularly lovely way of raising money as an important part of our ethos is all about co-collaboration and togetherness, and this is yet another way of getting more people involved and engaged in what we do!

The hats will be a valuable addition to our members attire as we go on our busking tour of Christmas markets in December. All sixty members of Electric Umbrella will take part in the busking tour, hoping on and off the tour bus visiting Christmas markets singing songs they’ve written themselves and well known Christmas songs. This year we will be releasing our own Christmas single! The single will be officially launched with a live event at The Horns Pub in early December.

If you are a knitter, or know anyone that would like to get their hands on the pattern and help us by knitting hats, please email mel@electricumbrella.co.uk or call 07452 806517.

Electric Umbrella and Parallel London

On Sunday 4 September, Electric Umbrella took part in Parallel London –  THE WORLD’S FIRST FULLY INCLUSIVE FUN PUSH/RUN & FAMILY FESTIVAL at the OLYMPIC PARK, LONDON!

25 of our members and friends of EU competed in the track events (100m 1k and 5k) wearing yellow EU t-shirts raising over £3500 for Electric Umbrella! In addition, EU then performed during the afternoon at the family festival, and ensured everyone was dancing by the end of our set.

It was a big deal for Electric Umbrella to be so visible and present alongside other significantly larger, older and national disability charities at such a huge event. We are extremely excited to be involved with Parallel London as the inclusive nature of the event fits in perfectly with the core values of Electric Umbrella, and we hope this will be the start of a great partnership.

This new, inclusive event brought everyone together in all our glorious diversity. First-timer and experienced athlete. Young and old.

One of our members was reunited with his electric wheelchair in anticipation of completing the 100m. An electric wheelchair that was locked in storage for the past five years believed to be too cumbersome for daily life. On Sunday, in this electric chair on the 100m course William told us he came alive. He will now use that chair every day. So many lives have been touched and so many memories made. We are all absolutely buzzing for being a part of it.

EU at Cafe in the Park

On Friday 15 July, Cafe in the Park hosted an evening of live music from EU with a BBQ, to celebrate and raise money for Electric Umbrella.

Not only was this event a complete sell-out (200 people), we had an absolutely fantastic evening and are seriously proud to have such a lovely partnership with such an amazing local business with such wonderful values.

We are extremely privileged and honoured to have the support of Carly and her wonderful team. Absolutely all profits raised on the night totalling just over £1100 have been donated to Electric Umbrella. THANK YOU!!!!

CakeFest 2016

Back in 2013, via a few whimsical text messages, Tom and I decided to ‘give Electric Umbrella a go’ with absolutely no funding or support…

Since then we have delivered over 200 sessions across three regular groups, held two successful club nights, toured and performed over 40 gigs including festivals, fundraisers and a Christmas pub gig and we held our very own summer festival, Umbrellafest!

We now have over 50 regular members who, between them have attended 600 hours of music sessions have performed to thousands of people!

We are delighted to say that as of February 2016, Electric Umbrella is an official charity. Since then we have spent a great deal of time reviewing what Electric Umbrella is, what our purpose is and how we want to operate.

We are incredibly privileged to now have the wonderful support of a team of trustees and a team of experts and advisors volunteering their services to enable Electric Umbrella to have an exciting and most importantly, sustainable future for our members.

We want to share our plans for the future with you all, and we want you all to be involved. This is just the beginning!

We will only be able to make this work with your support so, we will be sharing ways in which you can help us continue our work as well as celebrating how far we’ve come.

Please join us for cake, a short presentation and a song or two and help us ensure the future of Electric Umbrella is BRIGHT YELLOW!

We would like to welcome our members, friends and family, musicians, volunteers and anyone that has an interest in Electric Umbrella. Please share these details with anyone that may be interested in attending. FREE tickets HERE.

With thanks to Merchant Taylors School for hosting CakeFest and their continued support with Electric Umbrella.

Best Wishes,

Mel & Tom

Electric Umbrella Club Night 2016

A massive thank you to each and every one of the almost 400(!) of you who attended our 4th club night – our participants and performers, the band, our wonderful volunteers and of course our fantastic audience!

It was a particularly special one for us, as it was our first event as a registered charity. Please please keep supporting us by spreading the joy of Electric Umbrella and the work that we do far and wide! We have a long road ahead of us to raise vital funds to keep the music going, but with your support we know this is possible!

Once again, the totally brilliant Stuart Bendig has managed to capture the sheer joy of Electric Umbrella with these great photos. Thank you to everyone who made it possible and we really hope you enjoy these pictures.
